    Not my best day ever.

Tried to go to the clinic for some good drugs (since I most certainly have a lovely sinus infection yahoo), but forgot my insurance card and they wouldn’t take me.  Frustrating.  But fine because I bought a paint palette and some itty bitty paint brushes instead- a much longer lasting use of my time and money.

Put creamer in my tea.  Gross.  I do not like my Earl Grey sullied with creamer.  It looked like coffee and I have that whole short attention span thing.

Definitely the worst part was my fitting this afternoon.  I worked a very, very long time on a prom dress doing my least favorite thing, adding panels in to make it bigger, in my least favorite fabric, chiffon (which was invented by Satan himself).  She put it on and it completely fell off. Which was fine, I can take in.  Except that as I was pinning it I discovered that everything in the bodice that I had added needed to be taken out.  Two weeks ago I swear this thing couldn’t zip -had a huge gap of not zipping.  Instead apparently it just needed a little add in the skirt. A simple fix.  This was a big mistake.  Because now I gotta undo and redo and I still haven’t pinned her hem, all of which takes lots of time.  Her dance is on Saturday.

Spawn’s dance is on Friday.  As I’m bawling my eyeses out, Spawn says to me “you could have avoided this by getting my dress done in a timely manner.”  I admit it. I flipped her the bird.  She deserved it, don’t you think?  And she will also deserve when that particular poorly chosen sentence gets reused at some future time.

Because I’m a nice mother (and because I don’t want to look at or think about the freaking chiffon nightmare), I’m working on Spawn’s frou frou princess dress.  I believe that I have redeemed myself today.  It is gorgeous.

I have been insanely busy and I’m tired.  I’m looking forward to Saturday when I can do absolutely nothing. Except try out my new paintbrush.

  • I have never made a dress. But I think I would much rather paint almost anything than try to sew a dress, because the few times I have attempted it, it was a disaster and only resulted in frustration. Hope you get some drugs so at least the physical can feel better.

  • First of all, the clinic should have had your info in their computer.(if you are their regular patient). I feel terrible that you were turned away.

Secondly, I am sure you will get that satanic chiffon dress to perfection by Wednesday. I think you feel real down about it because you feel poorly. I hope you can get over whatever problem you are having and enjoy the week.

  • I agree chiffon is truly evil. I hope you can refocus and complete it without too much stress. *hugs* Hope you are feeling better soon!

  • Keep thinking about Sat. and the paint brush…

  • Sinus? Find an herb store and getcha some myrrh resin. Grab some distilled water somer’s if’n ya ain’t got any. Grind up about a quarter teaspoon of that resin just as fine as you can get it while a cup of distilled water comes to the simmer on the stove. Toss a quarter teaspoon of salt in the simmering water, then the myrrh. Then the tiniest pinch of dried cayenne pepper. Stir like hell, but don’t expect the myrrh to dissolve. The stirring is just so it knows you mean business.

When it cools, fill your cute little squeezy nasal spray bottle with the stuff. Put the rest in the fridge, and take a couple of good snorts up each nostril from the spray bottle. A few times each day, shake hell out of the nosal spray bottle and suck up a couple of good snorts, which will be mildly exciting but not at all painful thanks to the cayenne — which is essential. Gotta have it.

Then you don’t need no stinking clinic. This stuff works faster and more reliably than any antibiotic those folks would give you, and it doesn’t foul up your gut flora to do it.

For the chiffon, I can’t help ya.

  • Good luck with the paint.

  • hopefully the week goes by quickly

  • PS: If’n the infection is way out of hand, to the point that you’re expecting mucous membrane to leave your head when you blow your nose, do my world famous medicinal garlic regimen too, to get at it from both sides. Otherwise, the myrrh and cayenne will do the trick. Oh, and stir or shake hell out of the stuff before filling your nosal sprayer with it. Gotta get the good bits into suspension, don’tcha know.

And myrrh isn’t even scary to church ladies because the wise dudes laid some on Jesus when he was but a greasy screamer. Not that anyone these days knows why… except us heathens and those who aren’t skeered of us.

  • @HappierHeathen - you made me laugh.  in fact, i read it to the whole fam and we all had a big guffaw.  i’ll look into the myrrh situation tomorrow.  i’m still giggling.
@vexations - rebecca’s dress is almost done.  so that’s good. tomorrow is another day.
@murisopsis - i knew you would feel my pain.
@ZSA_MD - not a regular patient, but i’ve been there before.  i didn’t push it. because i’d lost interest by that point.
@leaflesstree - just takes practice. i’ve been sewing for 30 years. egads, i’m old.
@Inciteful - what to paint with my cute new brush.
@godfatherofgreenbay - i need every minute this week.  but thanks.

  • @HappierHeathen - i was gonna ask if frankincense would do.  myrrh sounds like cool stuff. googling for fun and profit. hold the profit.

  • Either many glasses of Wine or some place to hide. The last time I had to create something with fabric was back in the eighth grade.

  • @Zoz36 - wine at my side. kids in bed.  life is good again.

  • Go forth and conquer!  Actually, noting the time, let me adjust that to, To bed!  Subsequently, Go forth and conquer!

  • @lanney - i’ll conquer the bed in a little while.  right now i’m conquering relaxing.  tomorrow i will conquer the going forth.

  • @lanney - also. welcome back.

  • Thank you.  : )

  • i do hope you flip it on her as often as you can, and in a timely manner!

dont girls know how to sew anymore?

  • Are you painting on canvas or paper?

  • @longshadow618 - only if she earns it.  i don’t give it out for free.
@songoftheheart - probably paper. i’m afraid of the canvas.

  • I’m sorry you had a hard day.  what did she do when you flipped her the bird?  I wonder what it will be like when she uses it on you some day?  sorry, I just had to say that.  I’m ornery.  very.

  • @plantinthewindow - we kind of have a joke about it.  you are my sunshine. the johnny cash version with the bird on the cover.  makes us laugh every time.  i see your point though.  i can hardly get annoyed if she does it if i have.  on the other hand, it was pretty obnoxious what she said.

  • @promisesunshine - I just think it’s all kinda funny because it’s not happening to me.

  • @promisesunshine - canvas is where the fun begins, texture, get dirty build your paint. just sayin’

  • I’ve never made a dress. I imagine it must take a lot of time and patience.

  • I only have  (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) to offer.

  • Oh the life of a mom of daughters! I bet the dress is beautiful and way to go on sewing it! You’re a good mom, who knows when and how to use all of her fingers!

Sorry it was a tough, sinusy-infectious day! I know how bad sinus infections can be…I’m sure that added to your sad and carpy feelings.

Does Satan have a fabric store?!

Come on Saturday! Saturday come on!
    HUGS!!!

  • @adamswomanback - yes, satan has a fabric store. it’s filled with chiffon and other slippery sh*.  certain activities with fingers are more pleasant than others.

  • @plantinthewindow - i think it’s kinda funny that you think it’s kinda funny.
@Grannys_Place - hugs are excellent.  and cyber hugs are less contagious for you.
@Shining_Garnet - the best things in life do.
@longshadow618 - fun?  i don’t like fun. much. everything i’m pondering now is a copy.  perhaps the canvas will tell me what goes there when it’s ready.

  • Oh dear, you are tired.  Hope you finally get that rest you need and some tea without creamer.  hehe

  • @olwd - too many deadlines.  coffee this morning.  just the way i like it.

  • Awwwwww, now you’re talking my language!  hehehe

  • @plantinthewindow - HA HA (and now i’m going to sing a genesis song as soon as i figure out which one it is)

  • You’re so talented :D

I’m sure Spawn is going to look amazing and enjoy her gorgeous dress ^^
Chiffon wow you’re talented and brave, I’ve had to do some ballet stuff with it but the good thing about costumes is that it can be glued instead of properly made, I agree, some fabrics are specifically designed to make it impossible for you to use them.
    Best of Lucks :)

  • it’s Mama – but singing that song would be harder than sewing satanic chiffon – at least it would be for me   I’m so glad I came over and learned about the myrrh nose snorting remedy…personally I eat horseradish right outta the jar, clears up the sinuses and it’s a good diuretic too, here’s a link so you won’t think I’m just making stuff up: http://www.herballegacy.com/Horseradish.html I flipped my husband the bird once…it really pissed him off so I don’t shoot the birds anymore  Now …. get back to sewing so you can paint

  • @mlbncsga - ah. thank you.  i still hadn’t figured out song.  satanic a bit on its own.  thanks also for the horseradish thing.  i think i have some wasabi something lying around.  i can snort that.
@meddwl - yes, she will.  it’s a knock out color for her.

  • @promisesunshine - I’m not sure I’d snort wasabi or horseradish, just eat it…dang now I have that ”Weird Al” Yankovic song running around in my head

  • Look at you, rocking the artsy talents. I think it’s a pretty damn cool thing to know how to make a dress. sheesh.

flipped her the bird. hahaha! yeah. no comment. :D

  • @distractedbyzombies - i’ve been suitably punished.  drug through the dirt and all.

  • @promisesunshine - does that mean we skip the trip up the cliff? drat. that was going to be cool.

  • @distractedbyzombies - certainly not!  the cliff is just for fun!!

  • Only made one chiffon number…never ever again.

  • @moniet - unfortunately a lot of prom dresses have chiffon and i do alterations occasionally.  so.  the worst was a stretchy chiffon made out of i don’t know what the heck it was.  nightmare.  but that was done weeks ago, so i have forgotten.  :)
