I have squandered my resistance
#winsh 37. Take a line from one of the following songs and create a piece using the line as a title or an epigraph. ( 4 pts per song) The Boxer ( Simon and Garfunkle)
Deep in my heart I know I seek
A life somewhat full of substance
My head and my will do not speak
I have squandered my resistanceMy deeds from purpose do erase
Inaction leads from sustenance
My view of character debase
I have squandered my resistanceEach morn brings battle with the self
Through which cause I fight existence
Negative thoughts upon the shelf
I have squandered my resistance.For some reason I thought rhyming and counting were a good idea this evening. Ha. This is a kyrielle. Quatrains of rhyming lines of 8 syllables with one line (usually the last) repeated.

well done.
well-written, Carrie.
Nicely done. Can’t help hearing The Boxer line in Paul Simons voice.
excellent…I love that song
Great song. And a great use of the line for the poem…
yay! nicely done and fancy.
Nicely done. I ran out of creative ideas once I was done with the arts and crafts portion of the hunt.

VERY nice. Rhyming is not my forte so I am always impressed when I see it used well…great line, too, from a great song. So glad time was on your side, yesterday, <3
I imagine you will be able to guess my favorite line…..”Negative thoughts upon the shelf”
Keep them there where they belong.
@ohellino - Me too.
Great job with the poem.
good grief, woman. talk about inspiration and power at the END of a tuesday! i bow before wonderwoman
seriously.
(the dog looks like a …boxer
plus, i really have 2 many dogs. *snort*
It aches like a stone bruise, but it is indeed very well done.
Kyrielle … a kyrielle? I have squandered my education.
@we_deny_everything - who needs to know the names of all these crazy poems anyhow. it’s french. it means count syllables and rhyme.
but i did start it before midnight.
@lanney - ouch. stone bruises won’t get those pretty colors.
@Bels_Kaylar - always too many dogs.
@gottobereal64 - thank you
@vexations - wrapped in a pretty box with a big purple bow.
@SandraErickson - i had to post time it to get it on yesterday.
@armnatmom - i’m still working on that blasted paper mache
@distractedbyzombies - ooh. fancy.
@Zoz36 - i dig the song too. knew which line i wanted to use the minute i read the prompt.
@godfatherofgreenbay - might need to listen to it again myself.
@ohellino - yup. me too.
@plantinthewindow - thank you, john.
@Grannys_Place - thanks.
Yours is not a poem to be squandered. Thanks for posting.
I have no idea what an epigraph, kyrielle or quatrain is. Sometimes coming here is a good reminder of how little I know. I just read HHs space blog, too. My brain hurts and I think I need to go back to college.
@BoulderChristina - oh. i forgot to look up epigraph. quatrain means 4 lines with pairs of rhyming words. kyrielle is just a poem with rhyming pairs in groups of 4 lines with one of the lines repeating in subsequent groups. and each line is supposed to have 8 syllables. i really do prefer free verse. sometimes free verse won’t write itself. (like last night)
HH exploded my head yesterday. i’m still collecting bits.
@ElaineWestheimer - thank you for reading.
A fine exercise indeed!
Excellent poem/interpretation of the theme, SweetC.!!!
Yes, we must keep the negative thoughts on the shelf!
HUGS!!!
@adamswomanback - best news i’ve had all day. welcome back.
With a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises.
I think. I just heard that song earlier today. I also like the line about the New York City winters bleeding me. I’m close enough to NYC to know what he means.
Nice job.
@leaflesstree - cities and winter bleed me. can’t imagine a double whammy. promises. ha.
@McScarry - thank you
Oooh! a new form! I’m a making a note and will no doubt attempt it soon!! I love this one!
@murisopsis - oh my! i was sure i got the idea from you, the queen of poetic forms.
Good work Carrie. I wish I could use rhymes in my poetry. It escapes me.
Trying to send a mini to you. Not sure if it will get past the temper tantrums of xanga.
nicess
@ZSA_MD - it’s a delightful mini. i don’t care for rhyming.
@bonmots - thankee
Roses are red,and violets are blue,Cannibalism is seretewwhen your friends are cookies, too!OR (since I can’t decide on a last line…)Roses are red,and violets are blue,Cannibalism is seretewwhen your friends make great cookie stew!I WAS going to just make something that didn’t rhyme about how your stuff always gives me something to laugh about, but I saw some people already doing that, so I had to give originality a shot. Thank you so much for the laughs.
By the way… I’m prepping for S.O.S.A.D. early. I’ve found a lot of new recruits that are supportive of the movement. I’m so excited for it. xD
