marsh pix
I live somewhere pretty too. Go figure. This is one of the mountains somewhere nearby. It could be Mt. Nittany. I really have no clue. In any case, I was hanging out today at the local marsh preserve thing for some creek conservancy shindig. I know a lot about it. As you can see.
I was playing with my usual summer gig- the art studio where I teach summer camps. Sometimes the studio gets invited to do children’s activities at these shindigs. An opportunity for me to be outside, usually listening to live music of some sort, and hanging out with the small people. Often little small people. I keep forgetting how much I like little small people. I mean the preschool crowd. They are adorable. Littleloudone was supposed to be my assistant, but instead she spent the day in the creek catching fish. That was ok. Until she found out that I was getting paid and she had had the opportunity to share in that bounty. Ha, sucker. But she had fun and I had fun and life is good.
I think these thistle things are cool. How funny is it that I’m thinking of you people (and pictures) when I’m living my life these days.
I believe this is skunk cabbage. I didn’t sniff it to find out. Because it is well-named stuff.
I think this is crown vetch. That may not be true. I usually only see it from the side of the road. Do you know about crown vetch? Because I think it was invented here to be a ground cover and it’s completely invasive. But still, if this is it, it’s pretty. Because it’s purple.
I took this picture to find out what kind of plant this is, but I can’t tell from the pic. It looks silver in the sun.
It was bluegrass all day long. Banjos and string bass. How fun is that? And it took me at least an hour to figure out where you have to have a fiddle in the band. One of the bands could play in Texas.
I’m a little sleepy. Just in case I’m not making any sense.

COOOLLLL! you’ve got a mountain view toooo! very nice.
@James_River - got all kinds of little mountains. i live in happy valley.
My grandma loves that song, and dancing. She and her new boyfriend go square dancing and she is now learning to line dance. Not that that has anything to do with your post.
I’m very glad you had such a good day out there and it is great to see the pictures. : )
That sounds like so much fun…little people and outdoors and art and music. I need to find a job like that! You took great marsh pictures! And I’m glad you’re not into sniffing plants. People would think you were weird for doing that. Maybe not the little people, but the big people sure would! And yes, the whole fiddle thing has me clueless! But that’s ok, because I’m sleepy, too.
@lanney - i used to go line dancing. so much fun. back when my slutty roommate was trying to hook up with a country singer. not that that has anything to do with your comment.
wish i could remember west coast swing or something like that. went with some song about neon maybe. that was a long time ago. there it is. i hardly ever listen to country any more.
@songoftheheart - i secretly linked the fiddle song.
i’m pleased with my own self about the pix. most of them i didn’t even crop. it really is fun. i whine about it going in, but always have a good time.
@promisesunshine - Out here country music is unavoidable. Sometimes that’s not so bad.
@lanney - not at all. i like a lot of it. i have a country pandora station for my melancholy moods. i need to go to bed now. i was exhausted 4 hours ago.
Very pretty — and what fun to play with the little ones all day!
@slmret - thanks.
Interesting plants, those spiky things. And, yay, music. I like fiddles. I like songs with fiddles. I’m not clear on the difference between a fiddle and a violin, but I like both.
@leaflesstree - There isn’t a difference. The differing names are used when playing differing styles of music.
@lanney - ah. I always suspected that. I guess fiddle player doesn’t sound right in an orchestral setting.
looks like someplace i would hang out. thanks for sharing a bit of your world
Oh by small people I was getting my hopes up thinkin you meant short people were extra loveable, oh will, you got a beautiful spot there where you were.
What a pretty place! I loved PA, they had the coolest, most secluded little running trails.
@NewDog2 - Short people are VERY loveable.
Great pics. Sounds like a purrfect day. Nothing like good music, gorgeous surroundings and the laughter of little small people. Delightful…
@BoulderChristina - i’m making good use of those. ha.
@MzSilver - it was that. could have used another 5-10 on the thermometer though.
@NewDog2 - i have a special place in my heart for short people.
@buddy71 - i believe it is a place you would like
@leaflesstree - i gotta find out what the spikey things are. i think i knew last year. i saw that lanney took care of the fiddle/violin discussion.
Happy Person in Happy Valley playing with the little people. What a neat day! The best bluegrass is in Kentucky, East Tenn and North Carolina —not Texas. IMO
@vexations - i’ve never heard live bluegrass in any one of those places. perhaps that needs to go on my bucket list. also found out a local band i like very much is playing there in two weeks. i could sit and watch. this area is awesome for live, local music.
Very cool post, very cool pics.
But for Gods sake girl….what was LLO fishing for? Did she catch any? Pics???!!!
LOLOLOLOL
@Bricker59 - oh my goodness. you read something.
she caught several fish. i was busy, so no pics of her conquests. i do have a pic of her as a swamp rat. i was freezing and she spent the day in a creek. go figure.
Looks like a nice area and you love what you do.
As to live music, we have something called the ‘Gilroy Garlic Festival’ once a year. They have live music and I love it. Many get out there and dance wild in the hot sun. It is so much fun.
frank
@ANVRSADDAY - a garlic festival??? i love garlic. seriously. i’m not free enough to dance in the sun anymore. sigh.
@promisesunshine - Bummer.
@ANVRSADDAY - growing up stinks. i’m sorry i did it.
@promisesunshine - I wish someone would have helped me when I was a kid.
@ANVRSADDAY - helped you with what?
@promisesunshine - Overcome affects of abuse.
@ANVRSADDAY - oh.
Sounds like a win-win day! We get a photo post, LLO gets to play with fish, you get to play outside with little peeps and get paid!! You are the winner!!
The fourth picture is phenomenal. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
@ZSA_MD - glad you like that one. i was channeling some of my xanga friends when i took that one. any weekend is good.
@murisopsis - it was a good day.
Nicely done…
You live in a beautiful area, so peaceful and serene. I love the colors and the beautiful energy you are surrounded with.
The smell of skunk cabbage is over powering here on some of the old logging roads where it grows as wild as dandilions do.What a wonderful day this was and you got paid for it and that is even better:)
@Grannys_Place - thank you. it is pretty here. seems to be pretty everywhere though when the eyes are open.
@armnatmom - i do so love my camera phone
nice post.
sounds like you had a very fine day.
@plantinthewindow - thank you, i did. not so terrific since then. but this shall pass.
