burned
@Thatslifekid suggested a purge challenge which I think started today. I’m all about purging. And I’m all about fire. So I did a purge fire. Evidence here:

What did I burn you ask? This is probably the dull part at first glance. Probably at second glance too. But I did lots of thinking while I was attempting to burn my purge. Magazines don’t burn so well. I also lost interest, so I have many more to burn. Burning is therapeutic for me and I’m sure I’ll require more therapy this week.
Anyhow. Cooking Light and Southern Living magazines were the purge today. No point in ever having these subscriptions, I can assure you. I don’t read magazines. Really not my thing. I rarely used a single recipe out of either magazine and I am the least southern living person on the planet. These subscriptions were from a different time in my life, and I’m not going back there. Don’t need any person or magazine telling me that I’m not good enough or not doing something right. And that’s that.
The only reason I got these magazines was because a friend started one of those infernal home businesses. What is it with women in their 30′s and 40′s starting home businesses. Egads. I went to her introductory parties, bought some dust collecting stuff that was pretty but never suited my lifestyle and my people in it. And somehow got these stupid magazines. I opened them in the beginning. Looked at photos of pretty gardens and organized kitchens. Things that definitely went with this friend of mine and her life, but so didn’t go with mine.
I went to her teas and Christmas cookie exchanges and Friday evenings with chocolate martinis. I enjoyed her wardrobe of flowered capri pants and twinsets. Then I started going to school and didn’t have time or money for coffee dates and lunches. Or inferiority, for that matter. And she removed me from her mailing list, thank you very much. I was upset for a while.
But now I’m not. Because I’ve been hanging with some other friends of mine. People who don’t care what I wear. Don’t even care that I may disappear for a while. People whose company makes me feel good, with whom laughter is far more important than anything else.
This is all just another step in my new life of choosing what I do and who I do it with. (or “with whom I do it” for you people who care about the proper fork and grammar and stuff)
what seems like a terrible twist of fate
is sometimes the best thing
and sometimes the best thing
turns out to be a miserable lie#npm kinda like a poem
Also the bread disaster (and it really seemed like a disaster) looks and smells fantastic.

It seems like a good thing. Both things do. I would have talked to you tonight, but by the time I got settled, I thought you were going to bed. Tell me about you next time you’re awake.
Nothing like a good purge (of old things taking up space) now and then. We cant purge here by fire (crazy folks have burned things down they should not have, hence the local ordinances) unless you throw a hot dog on it…LOL!
I’m glad you have a group of friends you feel comfortable around. Yay for making choices. I tried a burning ritual the other day..unfortunately, in a public park on a very windy day. White smoke from a very small fire going a very far distance made me uncomfortable, so I put the lid on and snuffed the fire! So much for the purge! LOL! I like your big bonfire better! And look at your happy chairs! You got it made in the shade. Keep on with your choices.
Good for you! I have hundreds of friends from all over the world. Laughter and open minds make for the best and most lasting friendships.
I’ve done worse. I once answered the phone and when it was all over I had subscribed to 10 magazines. On the phone it sounded like a good deal. Looking back I was like Evy’s brother Jonathan in The Mummy. “Oh yes I’ll take that one and that one and that one….” but regretting it later. My purge was via dropping them down the garbage shoot each month.
It looks cozy.
sounds great, I’d like to purge my body of pain
I’m a sucker when kids are selling magazines door to door! Fortunately there haven’t been any selling anything but cookies lately!
I only like a few magazines…and I usually only buy them when I’m on vacation and want something to read besides books.
I don’t care about proper grammar. And I like sporks.
Purges, inside and out, are good once in awhile.
Your poem is uber good, and so true.
I wanna’ roast hot dogs and marshmallows in your purge fire!
Did you call the bread “Diaster Bread”? I think breads should have names.
HUGS!!! And Happy Tuesday!!!
Oh…and if my comment wasn’t long enough already…
…I was gonna’ say…Friends come and go…I try to learn from them whle they chose to be in my life…and the bestest of them are always willing to let me be myself and are willing to love me and forgive me! I have some friends I’ve had since Kindergarten! Which I think is very cool!

More HUGS!!!

I feel safe around you . . . online . . .hehe, I don’t want you fire purging my home. hehehee
(I’m kidding of course)
Hooray for bread that is not disastrous!
It’s good, I think, to purge from time to time. I know it is for me, anyway. Out with the old, in with the absence of clutter.
Next time it could be an easier purge…donate all magazines to your local library! They sell those things and make money. All good!
@HappierHeathen - i did make a new year’s resolution, if you will, to do just that. and i am working at it in that slow unfocussed way that i do everything. all kinds of unrewarding stuff getting out of my life now.
and you will tell me about your visit.
@olwd - i am mostly sane and safe with fire.
@starmanjones - orange blueberry corn muffins? still gotta head over to the little red hen. ‘safternoon.
@adamswomanback - once had a friend tell me that friendships “ebb and flow”. to my face. i wanted to tell her to flow off. to her face. in any case, friendships do the wave dance. i have no idea what i meant to say there. but sometimes they are right for us and sometimes not. don’t give up on the ones who seem far away.
@godfatherofgreenbay - that would be good.
@Erika_Steele - tis
@TheSutraDude - i think i could post that on my wall. laughter and open minds. absolutely.
also, i try not to answer the phone. it’s never good.
@songoftheheart - you’ll have to figure out an alternative burning system. ripping is satisfying too. candles, of course, have the staring into the flame part that focuses the mind. yada yada. good grief. i am a pompous windbag this morning.
@GoneRetired - probably a local ordinance here too. but since i don’t know about it… and i haven’t gotten fined yet.
@lanney - we shall discuss at length some day soon.
@winniezpoo - i did feel a trifle guilty for not recycling. i can still recycle the other copies. it’s quite a dang stack.
@promisesunshine - and write off the donation, even if it is $10.00. Sounds more like $20 or $30 to me!
@promisesunshine - Darn fine resolution, that.
@HappierHeathen - it’s beautiful. getting rid of the trash leaves room for the good stuff.
hehehe, oh goodie.
Seriously. One of the best reads ever.
Some folks need to figure out how to burn their Pinterest Boards.
I have several years’ worth of Family Handyman and This Old House. I can’t bear to part with them. They have a lot of helpful ideas and instructions, and I still have a handyman business (but no clients) and need to do a lot of work on my own place.
what an improvement in your circle of friends! I’m with you on your choice and you probably don’t miss that first crowd.
If you think Julie`s story is cool…, last month my friend’s brother basically recieved a check for $6973 putting in a 10 hour week an their house and they’re neighbor’s half-sister`s neighbour did this for eight months and got paid over $6973 parttime from a laptop. follow the instructions from this address… http://www.wow83.com
lots of wisdom here. bread is always a disaster here, because then the boy gets glutened and we all suffer. heh
Maybe others will “purge” too…
I like to look at the photos in magazines like that but I never can make my life look like a photograph. Not sure I’d want to anyway. Your former friend sounds like the sort who only wants friends who can give her something (money). I try to avoid people like that.
@leaflesstree - i think it’s very possible that i misinterpreted her actions. in any case, she was an exhausting friend.
@Growedup - purging is so much better for the purger than the purgee. especially if you’re a magazine in my pyromaniac house.
@distractedbyzombies - perhaps i will try some gluten free bread for kicks. i once made a gluten free king cake. it was a gagfest, but the little girl said it was good.
@rnjennison - not anymore.
@Roadkill_Spatula - we have family handyman out the kazoo. they are not mine to get rid of and they don’t give me baggage anyhow. and we’ve done gobs of stuff out of those. any recipe i need, i can get online. don’t need paper clogging my life.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - i almost got sucked into Pinterest. and probably would have except that they made me wait 2-3 days to be approved for an account. i’d lost interest by then.
@xonaa92 - i think julie’s story is really cool. and so does my neighbor’s brother’s step sister’s dog.
@promisesunshine - I think I’d kill for gluten free king cake. Not you. Then I wouldn’t get the cake.
Extra icing please.
@distractedbyzombies - i have been known to mail baked goods.
my friend in natchez’ son (i’m butchering this sentence i know) went on a burn purge about a year ago. burned antique3 furniture. whoa nellie. had lots of bad memories, buried deep inside. gotta say i don’t think i could go that far with the purge thing as he did. but, i think a purge burn is definitely coming for me too and thank you very much for the idea (coming up again). maybe i’ll burn my southern living recipes too. i’m back on the soup and toast with no butter. but that is just me. got a plan, man. ; ) theme i’m workin’ on. less is more.
Hope you roasted some marshmallows on that purge pile! We do outgrow friends every once in awhile. I believe we are usually better off without them cluttering up the closet…
Ladies with home businesses…GAH
@ordinarybutloud - hey there! nice to see you. gah is right. certainly ones with useless googaws. (i do dig pampered chef, i’ll admit that.)
@murisopsis - this is true. friendships average symbiotic or they don’t work.
@be_the_rain - can’t imagine burning furniture. that’s probably more than even i could do. lea with a plan. that’s something to behold.
I had a similar fire purge on Sunday… of old beer boxes.
@promisesunshine - I have the best grill pan EVER from pampered chef. Dammit. Cuz I don’t do parties anymore.
I like your kinda like a poem. I hope to do some purging in the next few days. Hubby will be gone, and I see absolutely no need for him to keep boxes of financial newsletters from the 1990′s. He won’t know the difference (unless he reads this.)
@ata_grandma - (i won’t tell him!)
@ordinarybutloud - it’s a good thing i don’t know about this grill pan. i’m in love with my garlic press. and my stoneware. and my bamboo cutting board. ok. i’ll stop now.
