#whimsh 10. Create a PHOTOGRAPH in a surrealist tradition

#whim 31. Write a STORY based on this photograph by John Glaze
On a very fine September Tuesday, the sun shining through the window, Dot brushed her graying hair. She stood at the mirror seeing the youth long faded, feeling the promise of another fine September day. She smiled at the rosy cheeked, shiny haired girl that she’d been.
At precisely 5:10, her loving husband of many years opened the front door. He looked for her first in the kitchen. Then walked slowly down the hallway in the self-satisfied way a man can employ when life goes his way. And he opened the door to their bedroom, more to discard his day’s burdens than to find his wife. A question in his face, he stood behind her and stared into the mirror.
She felt the words churning inside, burning a venomous path from her heart to her throat. She pulled the pistol out of her pocket and shot that foul mouth. Then put a bullet between his eyes.
In a voice more demon than woman, she said.
Nothing.

Oh, well that picture works perfectly then!
now that’s an interesting surrealist photo. is that your watercolor leaf? neat.
and that is one angry story. I’m trying to figure out what the heck he said.
i approve of this post.
I like the first photo. Such violence…
That photo is pretty awesome! (But I do like me some pine boughs)
goodness! someone found a minute to herself (to write/create) very cool! i wish i could nutshell the stories the way you do.
You are the artist of the water color? Awesome!!!!!!!!
From the blog title, I was worried about LLO….
ha! ha ha!
@ordinarybutloud - wow. now i’m worried about you.
@songoftheheart - oh, yea. didn’t think of that. i think llo’s fine at school. or close to it.
@armnatmom - it’s a photograph with a watercolor behind. can’t paint that well at all.
@Bels_Kaylar - i wish i could take mine out of the nutshell like you do.
@Aloysius_son - it just came at me. i went outside with something else in mind.
@vexations - i’m glad you like the photo. you do realize that she shot a reflection, right?
@buddy71 - that frightens me a little.
@plantinthewindow - he didn’t need to say anything, did he? and neither did she.
@lanney - been trying to figure out a story for that photo for weeks.
@promisesunshine - I appreciate a good revenge tale.
@ordinarybutloud - i love that about you.
Surrealist art is fascinating and strange to me. I love it, and your photo is mighty darn cool.
And good story.
@Marica0701 - i had to do research on it. i love how nature did most of the work for me. i walked outside and saw that leaf attached to the pine tree. very cool to start with.
welcome home.
howdy. I like your story. Pow! I’m glad no one got suspended.
@distractedbyzombies - hi mark!!! so glad to see you! how the heck are ya? we’re just hanging around.
@promisesunshine - bedraggled and traumatized and perfectly fine. hanging around is the best.
how are you?
@distractedbyzombies - perfectly fine. not ready for monday. are you still packing up? or has time gone by faster than it should again?
Aaagh! That I did not expect.
@promisesunshine - oh, mine be cooking in the nutshell for a good bit, to get what i do get. incubating. i have been trying to think of that word all week. sheesh. on to more important matters; guess what i found, synchronicity wise? a bottle of vino entitled “Septima”. i had to get it, of course. *clink* and salud
brother bear, are you joining us???
@ZSA_MD - poor doctor; she does not like our dark stories. i will have to come up with a happier one for her
i’ve got 11 left, surely something happy will come to mind…
@Bels_Kaylar - i suppose i have to look for septima tomorrow. and an incubator. i suppose i could have spillage out of the nutshell if i could carry a thought long enough to incubate it. i don’t even know what that means.
@ZSA_MD - it’s ok. i promise. no physical harm in my little psychotic story.
@promisesunshine - I finished sorting and discarding and repacking household 1 today (nearly all of our earthly possessions that got thrown in boxes and into storage after we left our first house). I’ll do what I can with household 2 until the movers show up on Monday. Next Monday, not tomorrow! Yikes. Mostly it is just hard with the reality sinking in. My parents are having a hard time. I feel kind of guilty and am scrambling my brains trying to figure out a way for them to follow after. Anyway, really, it isn’t going that bad. The much worse thing is that my son won’t keep his pants on at school. erm.
@distractedbyzombies - you have another week. that part i understand. and good. surely your parents understand that you gotta go where the job is.
i think pants at school should be optional.
@distractedbyzombies - poor bear. sorry, i’m hanging out, trying to catch up, on how it’s going. (((hugs))) for nudist sons and packing and all…
@promisesunshine - no, dear, not to worry about looking for any of that crazy stuff. it’s all good. we’ll argue about who is so bright that they don’t need to incubate thoughts, later
Poor Dot must have snapped… Too bad her husband was in the wrong place at the wrong time… if only he’d stopped at the grocery to pick up those eggs.
Oh I think I’ve had that day before…only without the pistol…lol
Excellent! Well done!!
great work
@murisopsis - seriously.
@moniet - the only arms i raise are connected to my shoulders.
@Grannys_Place - thanks.
@godfatherofgreenbay - thanks, matt.
@promisesunshine - My son is in strong agreement with you. How do you feel about underpants?
@Bels_Kaylar - He is probably picking up on latent pro-nudist sympathies from his father.;) Thanks.
@distractedbyzombies -
would that not be a kick; to have the bear bistro be nudist, too?!? (there’s a usedbookstore, in quartzsite, az, that is run by nudist owner. i need to go visit
I love the photo with the broken mirror, and it matches the story.
I love it!
She should switch to decaf.
~*Cheers*~… what a wonderful idea!!!
@distractedbyzombies - you’re cracking me up. i like underpants even less than pants.
@Bels_Kaylar - i’m not at all sure that i’d want to visit a nudist bookstore. nope. not even going to give that another thought.
@angys_coco - i think that photo is pretty fab too. glad the story fits.
@ItsAll_A_LoveWar - :)
@Roadkill_Spatula - you have the most entertaining comments.
@Growedup - mm kay
@promisesunshine -
@Bels_Kaylar - but there’s always online shopping.
hummmmm….if I could get my pistol working again I might try this, or maybe not since I’m superstitious about breaking mirrors
and since your photograph reminded me that it’ll be Christmas before we know it maybe I’ll just try to be nice and not naughty =/
@mlbncsga - what a terrible thing to remind someone of. how interesting that you connected that. and now you’ve reminded me of what i need to accomplish before christmas (and it has nothing to do with naughty or nice)
@promisesunshine - not the same, especially in Quartzsite
(running off to weld.class, back later
@Bels_Kaylar - i’m missing key information. have fun with your heat and tools.
My story version: So we decided to invite an oil speculator to our house. Why is oil prices so high I asked? Oh if you look in the mirror you will see yourself in a pretty good light. Oh yes I do look nice, what do you see in the mirror? Oh I suppose (he looks a bit conceited) that I see a smart and enterprising young man.
Bang! Bang! I see someone that deserves to be dead (I quickly wipe the fingerprints off the gun place it in the guy’s hand and quickly leave the ‘converted’ abandoned home.
@PPhilip - allrighty then. my bullets were imaginary.
i don’t think anyone deserves to be dead, actually. don’t believe in the death penalty. think if we want enterprising young men to not become rich we shouldn’t buy their oil. i think a lot of things are none of government’s damn business. what do you think of that? i have an opinion.
@promisesunshine - Yeah we continue to not ban film that is repulsive and allow all sorts of freedom of speech. Such is life and this is your blog, (tiptoes away )
@PPhilip - it’s tricky which freedoms are good and which are not. you don’t need to tiptoe away or back away. am i really unfriendly to you? it’s not intentional.
@promisesunshine - Me meek? Well I am foolishly naive at times. After all your family is almost immune to your words.
@PPhilip - *scratches head
