climb the mountain
One of my goals for this summer was to climb Mt. Nittany. If you want more info about it look HERE. We don’t have real mountains in PA. How hard could it be? The entrance to hell.
I swear I saw somewhere that this trail was so easy a child could do it. We took one way up. I appear not to have taken a picture of up. But they must have said kid as in goat. I wasn’t entirely sure we were all going to make it. I’m sure you’ll be surprised to know there was drama. This is near the top. And not the awful part. And it was raining.
Anyhow. All four of us made it up to the top of the mountain. Spawn was not speaking to me.
And for all the effort, it appears I didn’t get a picture of the view. Which is to the left of LLO and that cool tree.
I dunno what this is for. But if someone makes a stack of rocks, the least I can do is take a picture.
Some kind of flower.
We took another way down that wasn’t quite as steep as the way up. This picture does not show just steep and rocky the way down was for a while. And we laughed the whole way down. We are that kind of crazy.
We did it. Came home hot, sweaty and tired. Spawn and I made up on the top of the mountain. I told her she was stubborn. She said that I am too.

Sometimes wearing yourself out physically is the best way to rest emotionally. I’m glad you did it.
@lanney - spouse said i’m so formidable, i’m fivemidable. spawn wanted out of it. she made that very clear from the couch until the top of the mountain. i should ask what she thinks now. i’m glad we did it too. i need a nap.
Bangkok…Good prices there for teenage or younger.Just a thought.
Your pics don’t show any incline…could be a walk in the park for all we can see.
Anyway, glad you had a good time, and glad you and Spawn are friends again.
@Bricker59 - i swear to you, there was one hell of an incline. i was busy dying in the steep parts.
A good hike is always fun…
@Zoz36 - i’m a wimp.
Cool legend to go with the mountain. I would have added a rock to the pile, just to say “I made it!” Isn’t it great when they whine all the way, but in the end, the realize you were right? LOL! Yeah, I don’t experience that much, either! It’s a beautiful place. I’m sure walking up in the rain was not beautiful. I think the one picture shows steep pretty well. I’m proud of you! Now, go take your nap! LOL!
@songoftheheart - i won.
@promisesunshine - You’ve had two girls. That doesn’t equal a wimp.Getting older on the other hand…
@promisesunshine - That’s all that matters!
Fivemidable! I like it!
I think we’ve all been that teenager — so over family activities. ha I guess you just have to wait them out.
I try and stay out of the woods.
Beautiful scenery though.
@lanney - he’s so funny.
@armnatmom - i’m always in the woods. rarely it’s literally.
It looks like a pretty high quality place for a stroll. Especially for one who is fivemidable!
Random bit of entertaining trivia: The highest point in PA is lower than the lowest point in CO.
@HappierHeathen - that is an entertaining bit of trivia. i know we have itty bitty mountains.
That pile of rocks was probably some poor hiker’s grave – probably hiked up and expired when they got there. Probably took the steep way up. Just saying….
Glad everyone made up and you were all able to laugh on the way down!
lol – “This is some kind of flower. I forgot to take a picture of the view.” This is the kind of travel log I would write. You sound like you were exhausted when you wrote it.
@murisopsis - i definitely thought of you today. when i was wishing i had a hiking stick and better shoes. i think the laughter might have been hysteria.
@DMMeyer - i’m still whipped. i will never write a detailed travelogue. i snapped the view. didn’t stick in the phone for whatever reason. naturally i have the picture of the big honking slug. (LLO wanted that documented- I didn’t share)
LOL good job.
Nice intro paragraph
I wonder if it was hot and sunny you would be complaining it is too hot? A little rain can cool you off.
What no picture of a slug? I suppose our banana slug makes yours look like a baby.
Teach your child not to be stubborn but also understand why children need long term discipline. Long term discipline will get them to complete a task well.
@PPhilip - i wasn’t really complaining about the rain. though it seemed that way.
you want the slug picture? i can accommodate you.
she completed the task. my girl is an individual and i’m ok with that. and she knows when i’m serious that something is going to happen no matter what she wants. i think i’m doing just fine, thank you.
Now that looks like a great hike.
Loved your hike! I felt like the photographs helped me tag along on your hike. Looking forward to reading more of your posts (as I am new here)! Thanks for sharing!
@Grannys_Place - it was a good day. for all our drama.
@GoneRetired - thanks for the visit. welcome. xanga is a great place.
Pretty foliage. Glad you got that out of your system.
@ZSA_MD - you made me laugh, Zakiah! i’m not sure how you meant it, but it struck me funny.
poor things. poor fivmidable
it will all be better soon… (glad you and child made up, too
thanks for taking time to post and all…
@Bels_Kaylar - it’s all good. when it doesn’t suck.
just proves that whenever i set my mind to something, stand back.
Like mother, like daughter, I suppose. I get my stubbornness on both sides.
Yeah, they say East Coast mountains are mere hills compared to the Rockies and the Himalayas, but they’re pretty tall all the same says this East Coast girl who’s never climbed more than a mild rolling hill.
are there lions on Mt. Nittany?
@promisesunshine -
@leaflesstree - LLO asked if we were in the Alps. we laughed at her. then she said she was going to hike the Alps. then we said have a good time with that.
the picture i accidentally didn’t take was of that stupid stadium.
@godfatherofgreenbay - you mean nittany lions?
It definitely looks like a long walk. Nice pictures.
The tallest mountain that I climbed with my wife was a dormant volcano. we went to the top of Diamond Head in Hawaii. it was a very difficult climb for me, but the view was nice at the top.
Sounds like your climb was very strenuous. However, the photos she look nice.
frank
Cool that you made it to the top
Aw. That looks fun!! I’ve dragged my kids up and down several mountains in CO. They get quite angry. They make me quite angry. Now I’m wondering why I keep doing it.
Good job, in AZ they little rock piles and call them hoodas or something like that. You guys should all be very proud of yourselves.
@Shining_Garnet - apparently we were only gone 3 hours. felt like eternity.
@ANVRSADDAY - i’d be willing to climb a volcano. maybe. but not today.
@KnightInCROATIANarmor - yup. we did. and we made it back down alive too.
@ordinarybutloud - because it’s there and it’s a good experience. the only person happy through the whole experience was LLO. i have to think she sent her alien pod person with us.
@vexations - yesterday, i took on the mountain. today i can hardly take on the stairs. but i’ve been telling everyone. even random people on the street.
That photo with the suggestion of a sexy neck is rather notable.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - back off, big boy. she’s 11.
@promisesunshine - Oops! I retract…
…jeez that was going to come out wrong too.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - thanks for the laughs!!
@PrisonerxOfxLove - shoot, i just spewed coffee. dang it.
Feels good to climb a mountain, right? It’s good she is as stubborn as you, we all need a little of that
we have piles of stones along certain popular trails and they are always at goal ends. I carry the rock when I run and focus on one thing, like strength or serenity. I stop and drop the stone on the pile and give thanks for that gift. Then I pick up another and focus on something else until the next pile,
@BoulderChristina - i will carry a rock next time. i’m delighted that they’re both stubborn. just sometimes wish i could direct it a little more effectively. it was totally awesome to conquer that freaking mountain. and now that i can feel my thighs again, i’m wondering where the next one is.
@promisesunshine - Isn’t that the best? You know, you’re right by the north end of the Appalachian trail…
this makes me very nervous about my determination to hike the appalachian trail
I live near the lower end of the trail and we have a similar rock pile there – legend has it there’s an indian princess buried there – she probably died trying to hike the mountain
the flowers look like asters – probably an indian prince planted them in memory of someone who died hiking mountains…now I’m thinking I’ll just put my hiking boots in my next yard sale.
@mlbncsga - and i had another mouthful of coffee.
there is no reason to hike up this mountain other than to get up (and it’s beautiful up there) because it seems to be disconnected to the rest of the mountains. i have no idea why i said that. now i’m going to look into the appalachian trail. because i need a new ridiculous quest. (and hiking boots. what size?)
@promisesunshine - eight wide and their timberlake or timberland or something like that
@mlbncsga - too small. guess you’ll have to hike the trail after all.
@promisesunshine - I’ll probably wear my rocket dog sneakers anyway, the boots are way to heavy!
Don’t mind me, I just stoppped by to oogle your shoes.
@Aloysius_son - keep looking. makes me feel good.
i laughed so hard i had to “share with the class” (spouse speak for “tell me why you’re laughing”)
ha! awesome. good things happen at the tops of mountains. I’m sure of it.
@distractedbyzombies - top o’ the mountain to you. i think there’s something wrong with that statement.
