  • a sad theme

    I recommend going somewhere else.

#wintsh 3. Write a flash fiction using the words: fish, interstate, diamond, telepathy, Jupiter, longing, freckles.

The tour bus swam on the interstate, a shark amongst the car fish.  The passengers safely riding in comfort, excited for their upcoming lacrosse game.  Most excited of all was the head coach, swollen with pride for her team and with a baby growing inside. She gazed at the diamond from her loving husband, and then at the photo of her small son, full of energy and spunk. Her life fulfilled the longings of her youth, when she was covered in freckles from the sun and sweat from her sport. Telepathy gave her no clue.

Jupiter made other plans.  The shark slid into a reef.  She died.

Here’s the article.  This was the first thing I heard on the radio this morning.

#wintsh 13. Create a piece inspired by imagining the life of someone you read about in the obituaries.

    She was a beautiful woman
    Not necessarily standard beauty
    But her smile was infectious
    Her words were an inspiration
She made kids want to learn.
    Surely her home was filled
    With love and cheer
Her two sons, active and bright.
And then one day, this 39 year old woman,
    Apparently healthy and strong,
    Died in her basement
    Running on a treadmill.
    Her sons and husband shocked
    And abandoned.

This was written about Spawn’s middle school PE teacher who died.  I started thinking about her this morning when I heard the news above.  I wouldn’t have been surprised if today had been the anniversary of her death.  Not.  Two years next week. The whole community was shocked by her death.  Spawn puts flowers on her grave at Memorial Day.

There is something so sad about a young child losing a parent.  (And a parent losing a child- but that is not my melancholy focus today.)

  • Very sad indeed but well written with a paucity of words to deliver a big punch.

  • It is the hardest when we lose those whose lives are so very full, so much “in progress.”  It seems such an utter waste of potential.

  • this is where my spirituality ‘saves’ me, my study of dr. kubler ross, dr. brian weiss, etc. wherein those that have gone and come back talk about what they experienced on ‘other’ side, where people that have been regressed talk about the choices they made, the ‘why’ of seemingly heartbreaking choices. there Are reasons, that we cannot see (yet).  and someone here/there could argue and say i have no proof. actually, i do. some things have happened, in my own life and by grace, perhaps, i was given the reason. but, you’re right, i cannot SHOW it to you. unless i could reach inside of my chest and pull out my heart. and you would have to have the ability to read what is written on it. <3

  • how about a hug and a chicken toastada?

  • Very very sad…but both pieces are expressed well…very very well. (I have tears in my eyes.)

I’m sorry for the family, students, and friends who have been two years in mourning.

    HUGS

  • I heard about that news story too, from my mom. I otherwise haven’t paid much attention to the news. Very sad. And about that teacher, too. That’s how Douglas Adams died, randomly on a treadmill, but he was a bit older (51?) and not a PE teacher. Death just hits us with surprise sometimes, doesn’t it?

  • Okay, so I am not going to join in the sadness over the teacher’s death on the treadmill mainly because you have enough of that for this morning.  I will say that I went to the link and was interested in the announcement by a pastor that he will run for governor!  Seriously?

“I’m running this race because I believe in causes,” said Myers, a former pastor with the Assemblies of God church and director of the Global School of Supernatural Ministry.I would vote for this guy because he directs the Global School of Supernatural Ministry!  Go PA…..at least he is not some son of the head of a money grubbing corporation.

  • I heard about the bus accident and was thinking that before you mentioned the article.  What a tragic loss for her family.  Sooooo sad!!!!

Yes, a parent losing a child, let alone an only-child, is heartbreaking just thinking about it.

  • Even in sadness, you write with such eloquency. (sp?)

  • That was such a sad news to hear on the news. You have such a fine sense of coordinating your words with your emotions Carrie. Very well written.
